Christ calls His church to assemble on the Lord’s Day for Bible study and worship (Hebrews 10:24,25). Under normal circumstances every Christian should make assembling with the church a high priority.
On Sunday, December 9, 2018 all services of the Central Church of Christ had to be cancelled due to a record snowfall. Being snowed-in didn’t prevent many from worshiping God on the Lord’s Day! Below are some anonymous comments received about how individuals and families were able to worship in extreme circumstances.

“I have a DVR series recording set up for the weekly broadcast of Jim Dearman’s “Good News Today” sponsored by the Greeneville CofC. I watched one of those for my own “service” yesterday. Not everyone has a DVR or recording capabilities, but there may be other broadcasts that could serve the purpose. Also, I try to keep portable communion on hand — primarily in case of sickness (I get a fresh box of them at Lifeway every few months and split it up among all my extended family members’ households).
“It was very much a relief to know that services were canceled and no one had to take risks on the roads.”

“Our worship time at home was filled with songs, prayer, and a message from God’s Word. For communion, we did not have already made grape juice, but the Lord provided grapes that we made into juice. This went along with our unleavened bread that we made. It was a simple worship, but a worship that we tried to do in spirit and truth.”

“I went to World Video Bible Courses and heard Andrew Connally speaking on the topic, ‘The Menace of Mediocrity’. He was speaking at a lectureship in November, 1985. Excellent lesson. I had the individual communion cups at the house and took the Lord’s Supper. Had some prayers but did not sing!”

“My wife and I read from a devotional, a lesson on Genesis 1. We sang a verse from four or five familiar hymns. We had the individual communion portions, and took communion after considering 2 Corinthians 8:9 and praying for the bread and the cup. We love worshiping with the saints, but it’s also wonderful to have worship in the quiet setting of our home when necessary.”

Our family worshiped around our dinner table Sunday night with a devotional about Moses. We happened to have grape juice and my wife’s gluten free unleavened bread wafers so we also enjoyed the Lord’s supper together. Genuine worship.
