Stalking Bigfoot

Cornell University is being accused of a coverup. Charles Stuart, also known as “Snake, the Bigfoot Hunter”, discovered human-like remains in 2024 in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. Stuart claims that Cornell conducted DNA testing on the remains and found them to be 41.5% human and 58.5% Neanderthal. Cornell has denied that any such tests were ever conducted by them.

There are several who believe that Bigfoot (sometimes called Sasquatch) exists. Evidence for the creature is sparse, and most that has been brought forward has been discounted by experts. Stuart himself is regarded by many Bigfoot enthusiasts as not trustworthy. Let it be noted that Stuart is benefiting from his find; the remains were viewed by more than 60,000 at last year’s New York State Fair, and the exhibit will be open again at this year’s fair.

Is there really such a creature as Bigfoot? Some honestly believe there is, and others enjoy poking fun at the obsession. Most of us see no reason to spend time following the debate until irrefutable evidence comes to light.

Some would argue that belief in Jesus Christ should be placed in the same category as belief in Bigfoot. I firmly disagree on the basis of strong and abundant evidence.

When the apostle Paul was defending himself before the Roman governor Festus and King Agrippa, he said, “I am convinced that none of these things escapes [your] attention, since this thing was not done in a corner” (Acts 26:26). No, the life of Jesus of Nazareth was lived in a very public way and there are many who testified of His life and deeds.

Josephus was a contemporary of Jesus. He was a Jew employed by the Roman Empire as a historian. In his work, “The Antiquities of the Jews”, Josephus made two references to “Jesus of Nazareth”. Josephus was not a follower of Christ, so his motives were not religion. He was simply recording information that was commonly known in his day.

In 1 Corinthians 15:6, Paul wrote about eyewitnesses of Jesus after His resurrection from the dead: “After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.” Read between Paul’s lines and you’ll hear this: “Go ask them for yourself; there are plenty of witnesses who will affirm that Jesus truly rose from the dead.”

There is far more evidence for believing in Jesus Christ than for believing in Julius Caesar, Aristotle, or a number of other people of antiquity. But does anyone doubt that those people really lived?

Jesus absolutely lived on earth – and He absolutely continues to reign in heaven (Romans 8:34)!

Come to the light God offers!  Study His word, the Bible.  Worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24).  Get in touch with us if you’d like to discuss these ideas further.
