“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”  James 4:8

Daily Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1 – 4:21 (“For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.)

This Week’s Memory Verse:It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”  Isaiah 49:6

Remember These In Prayer:

Dave Torgerson continues at Franklin Woods Hospital following a surgical procedure on Thursday.  He was kept another night for further observation.  If he does well, he should be discharged to go home later today.

Evie Koen, young daughter of Heather and Daniel Koen of the Shady Valley congregation, had a rough Thursday night, Daniel reported, battling a high fever and pain.  Still, he says, she is doing well.  She underwent brain surgery on Wednesday at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in an attempt to bring her seizures under control.

Cathy Kidwell, a resident of Watauga Square Apartments who was baptized at Central in June, was taken to Johnson City Medical Center on Thursday morning after suffering a fall.  As of Friday afternoon she was still undergoing exams to try to determine the reason for her fall.  Apparently no bones were broken.

Landon Chester, a coworker with Conor McKinnis, did not do as well as hoped in a surgery Wednesday night to remove his appendix.  He will need to remain hospitalized for another couple of days, Conor reports; he is in a good bit of pain.  Continued prayers have been requested.

One among us has asked that we pray for them as they face a medical uncertainty.  They don’t wish to be identified, but they know that God will know the needs for which you’ll be praying.

Today Is The Day!  Our 3rd Annual Mountain Empire Men’s Fellowship begins at 9:00 this morning, and we expect many Christian men from around the region to be in attendance.  We urge all Central men to come, even if you have not preregistered.  If you can’t be with us, pray for the Lord’s blessings on this event.

Tomorrow Is The Lord’s Day!  We urge you to be ready to honor God by coming to Bible study at 9:15, and to worship at 10:15 and at 6:00.  Nothing should take precedence over our appointments with the Lord.

Comments About Danny Kellum as Central’s next elder should be submitted to the elders in writing and signed by early Sunday morning.  Pray for God’s guidance in this important decision.

Fill Your Smiles Boxes: If you took one or more of the shoe boxes to fill with gifts for a child in Nicaragua, please remember to get that done soon.  Boxes must be returned to the building by Sunday, August, 19, but sooner would be helpful.  Please also remember to bring $5 per box to help with the cost of shipping these to Central America.

A Most Valuable Guide!  “With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!  I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.  Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes!” (Psalm 119:10-12)
